The Nanu Oya railway station is the 63rd station on the Main Line, and is 206.9 km (128.6 mi) away from Colombo. The station is served by all trains, including the express Podi Menike and Udarata Menike trains. The Udupussallawa narrow gauge railway line, which connected Nanu Oya with Ragala through Nuwara Eliya, passed through the station as a junction and branching point.
The original train station was constructed in 1885 as the main line’s terminal, as part of the 31-kilometer rail line between Hatton and Nanu Oya. The railway line was extended from Nanu Oya to Bandarawela in 1893, and the Udupussallawa railway line was erected in 1903, transforming the station into a junction station. The Udapussellawa railway was shut down in 1948 because of insufficient traffic, and the rails were fully dismantled.
