Meet Spartacus, the 40-pound African serval cat who’s the definition of “gorgeous.” He joined his human family in Merrimack, New Hampshire, four years ago after a zoo adoption. Oh, and just so you know, this family is all legal with a permit from the state.

Now, here’s the scoop: Spartacus had a little adventure recently because he got spooked by the family’s dog. It scared him so much that he decided to take off. But don’t worry, they found him, and he’s doing pretty good now.

So, here’s what happened: Their dog didn’t feel like coming inside one night, and when they opened the front door, both the cat and the dog got a scare, and Spartacus made a run for it. One of the cat’s owners said, “He’s gone!”

Naturally, the family was really worried about their beloved cat, so they went into the woods to look for him, even though it was dark outside. They also told the police that their pet was missing. The police officers had a tough time because they didn’t know what a serval cat looked like.

That’s when Haylie Gulino, who works for Merrimack’s animal control, had to show the cops a picture of a serval cat so they could understand what this animal typically looks like. “They didn’t know; I had to show them a picture of how they normally look. Like I said, this was all new to them. Most folks around here aren’t used to this kind of thing,” Haylie explained.

After three nerve-wracking days, they found Spartacus not too far from home, and he quickly bounced back. When he reunited with his family, they were absolutely thrilled. They shared on Facebook, “Spartacus is safe and cozy at home. I can’t thank you all enough! I have a special connection with this cat, he’s my buddy!”
